I thought this YouTube video was worth posting. It talks about the reasons we use good gear to create our sound. He also discusses mastering, and the reason we send music to professional mastering people.
Then it gets into the old topic of mac vs PC. When it comes to this, I have always said it’s really a personal preference. Yeah, sure macs are slightly more of a stable operating system when it comes to big number crunching. But I know a lot of studio engineers who run Protools on both mac and PC, and they both run well. The sound really comes down to the type of audio interface, plugins, and other studio tools you have.
I use a mac in the studio here. But my reasons for doing so were not going to get me a better sound. there were other factors that came into making that choice.
If you are trying to decide whether to go mac or PC, it also comes down to what applications you want to run.

Give yourself more space than you think you need, as this can allow for room to acquire new equipment. If your recording studio is in your home or at work, try to use interior rooms because there is less risk of outside noise entering the room.
Now that you’ve found your recording space, test out the acoustics. Sound bounces off walls, so you may not be happy with how the final sound is in your recorded video. However, you can easily adjust your acoustics by diffusing the sound be done by simply filling the room with furniture such as a sofa, bean bag chair, or pillows.
The benefits are clear: you mix faster, use fewer plugins, free up computer power, get a more natural sound and have more confidence along the way. Today I’m showing you how to use the concept of Top Down Mixing with the stock plugins that come with PreSonus Studio One.
