I thought this YouTube video was worth posting. It talks about the reasons we use good gear to create our sound. He also discusses mastering, and the reason we send music to professional mastering people.
Then it gets into the old topic of mac vs PC. When it comes to this, I have always said it’s really a personal preference. Yeah, sure macs are slightly more of a stable operating system when it comes to big number crunching. But I know a lot of studio engineers who run Protools on both mac and PC, and they both run well. The sound really comes down to the type of audio interface, plugins, and other studio tools you have.
I use a mac in the studio here. But my reasons for doing so were not going to get me a better sound. there were other factors that came into making that choice.
If you are trying to decide whether to go mac or PC, it also comes down to what applications you want to run.
